There's some recipes on my blog that people may find interesting. I had never thought about doing a blog until Martin Lewis (moneysavingexpert) invited me to appear on his show and then I started it to expand more on the recipes etc.

Butter making

Hi shirl,
I made the butter this afternoon and it was brilliant and made butter milk scones, we had them with home made butter, homemade strawberry jam, and the cats demolished the rest of the butter milk.What more could you ask for a typical Sunday afternoon.

The cats would have to sing for their supper in my house i'm afraid. I love buttermilk as its so much creamier than milk but with lots less calories. Just freeze it and save for sauces etc.

You'll be scouring the reduced section for cream now lol!

Well it has been a month since I first made some butter, and I haven't had to buy any since. I'm off to France tomorrow for a week to look after my daughter as she recuperates post op', so I'm leaving the OH and step daughter to fend for themselves. The cry went up 'what if we run out of butter!', so I've made them a good supply. Hope it lasts them.

Is anyone else finding it difficult to find 'price reduced' cream at the moment - they seem to have really long 'sell by' dates - it's almost like cheese when you've paid full price!

I forgot to look out for reduced cream today, but I remembered I have some jersey double cream frozen, so I am going to have a practise run with that over the weekend.

I'm with wheels on this one. I haven't seen any reduced cream for ages (perhaps since Sept ), and thus have not made any butter. Could it be that the cows produce less cream in winter??

Just reminded me there wheels. Morrison's have got cream back at �1.50 for a 600ml carton...down from �1.68 - ish.

I was in Makro a couple of days ago and they had double cream at �4.99 for a gallon....I'll have yet to do the maths on that one.

I picked up 5kg of pork loin for my Xmas bacon whilst there - cost was �17.67. I don't know what what the meat is like as I have never bought from there before.

66p for a 600ml :)
