Burger press sticking!!!

Postby trotters independant » Fri Apr 13, 2007 3:48 pm

Hi all

Why is it that the top part of my press keeps sticking to my burgers? evrytime you lift the handle the burger does not stay in the mould, so I am having to slide a knife to release it, any tips or ideas?

Thanx

O, heavens, Trotter! I quit using that bloomin' thing long ago! I make patties faster by hand.

But, try a piece of plastic wrap, wax paper or parchment on the top & bottom of the pattie. Or, helps if the press is wet.

Good luck! :D

 Now, I really gotta go get ready for work!

Hi

Yes use plastic wrapper at the base to but meat onto but should not have to put one at the top as each time you do a burger the base of that one forms the top of your previous one, if you know what I mean :?

Trotters, try cleaning your press well, then smearing with a fine layer of vegetable shortening. After use, clean well and store with a thin layer of shortening. That works for my iron patty press.

Have sussed the job now!! just by putting one on the base then putting the meat in the press, then another sleeve on top, press, remove top sleeve, put that as the base sleeve on next burger and repeat, seems a lengthy way of doing it, but is quicker than when it sticks :D

My 4" hand press is all plastic and it never sticks. It has ridges and holes which might be the mechanism to keep the meat from sticking. How wet is your mixture?

Does anybody know were to get a 6" diameter burger press? I've searched all over the net and largest I've found is a 4" Dia. How about a press for chopped steak (Salisbury Steak)?

Thanks,

Hi

My machine is aluminium but is a commercial grade and is 5", mixture is as wet as I dare make it, but works fine with a sleeve put on the top, so not getting problems, particuarly when we do a batch of 600 burgers at a time!!!

Here is a picture of the one I have, I have looked on the suppliers website for you and 5" is the largest they have advertised on their website.

If you are only making a small run why not make one yourself? 6 inch diameter metal ring with a wooden disc with a handle screwed into it might just be enough.

Good idea.

Better still, use a section of PVC pipe for the ring.

If your luck's anything like mine you'll only find tubing 4mm too big or too small!

Hi...Trotter. I am very thankful to you and the members here. I am also facing the same problem from many days. Using a plastic cover helped me a lot. Thanks for posting.
