Storing hard cheese

Does hard cheese ie Cheddar need to be waxed before storing it?
I have recollections of reading somewhere about it being brushed with oil and wrapped in sterile dressing bandage.
I would like any comments on this.

Glad the forum is back online I was suffering from withdrawal symptons.

Thanks
wallie

Your preference, Waxing is nice and solid and reliable as long as u didnt leave any holes. Olive oil takes a few coats to cover it and other may use lard and "bandages" (cheese cloth) to cover it.

I use wax, I can reuse it.

You can wrap it in a sterile bandage, rub with lard and store it or wax it. Whichever you prefer. Both ways are acceptable.

Sorted. Had to re-sync post counts.
There were about eight users with counts that high, probably a leftover from the database corruption.
