If you don't use a whole beef bung can you re-salt what remains and use for another project?

Would appear to be a stupid question??, maybe I can expand, I am attempting a coppa, this is a lot smaller than the beef bung but will inevitably touch parts of the bung which will not be used and as a result may contaminate it therefore should the remaining bung be thrown away or can I just wash it and re-salt it to store for the next project?

Many thanks

I don't think it's a stupid question. I've never used a beef bung, but I don't see any reason why it couldn't be washed and re-salted. Maybe someone with more experience will weigh in.

I'd re-salt it - but use it in the near future. In my experience, casings that have been soaked once and then re-salted, don't keep as well as those that haven't.
