Passing on a Tip for Grinding...

When all the meat has been fed in, twist a piece of plastic wrap into a 12″-14” rope, and insert into the feed tube. In two seconds, that magic bit of plastic will push the remaining meat toward the grinding disk, so little is wasted. Turn off the machine as soon as you see the plastic appear behind the grinding disk, remove the entire grinding mechanism and clean it, while the meat chills (again.)

I do the same thing but here's an extension on that tip. I take a piece of plastic wrap, about that same size..maybe a smidge bigger, on the outside of the horizontal grinder tube like a drape over the grinder plate. That way any possible pops or splatters are eliminated and when done grinding that's the plastic I drop down the feeder.

At work i have used large sheets of parchment paper twisted so they will fit in the grinder, works great.

I've been thinking about finishing up with a single diced potato, anyone have any experience with this. I figure you won't even notice it's there in 10 lbs of a mix.

Unnecessarily complicated. Why not just take a handful of mince and run it through again? That will force the last of the meat through the grinder and the mince can be retrieved when the grinder is disassembled. I do this all the time.

Not having received my grinder yet (grr postie!) I can't speak from experience, but to me putting cling film (I assume that's what 'plastic wrap' is) into the grinder sounds like a disaster waiting to happen?

Won't the thing wrap round the auger-like thing and get all twisted, or more worryingly get minced up and contaminate your mince with loads of invisible pieces of plastic film?

I assume my worries are ill-founded or the kind lady wouldn't have suggested it as a 'tip' but it's just my 'envisaged outcome' from an overly logical brain. :?:  :?

I do as the same as grisell; just run some mince behind the end of meat and recover it when you take apart the grinder.
