There are a lot of these on ebay that are cheaper than that I think.

Kizer bought this one which also controls temperature and it seems like an elegant solution for a curing chamber.

I bought this one which seems to work well.

I bought one similar to that in herjac's second link off ebay. They are fine and do the job, however the one you linked to has one, possibly two advantages:

1. It's capable of PID control. I'm no electronics wizard, but (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), a PID controller will 'learn' the initricacies of your system to minimise overshoot and undershoot. This is pretty handy, as my ebay one tends to overshoot maybe by around 5-8%.

2. I can't tell from the description, but your PID controller may (and I say may, you'd need to look into it) have 2 relays, one for humidifcation and one for dehumidification. Mine ebay one only has a single relay, which means that when the humidifier shuts off, the dehumidifier turns on (and vica versa). It works, but it's an inefficient system.

I just bought one of these to put in my drying frig. I'm waiting on the humidifier to show up but it seems pretty simple and has good control range.

Not sure where your location is so can't tell what your power grid is.

Does this unit accept the standard 110V two prong plug to control the humidifier or do you need to hard wire the powercord into the unit?

I'm on a similar hunt. I was looking at the options available via Allied Kenco but thought their prices were a bit on the high side and got to thinking about other groups or industries that might use similar controllers. My first investigation was hydroponic grow units and found this one. I liked the option from Stealth Hydroponics as it offers both controls in a single unit and should look cleaner for mounting. It would be a savings over Allied Kenco's prices but still on the pricier side at $150 USD.

Option #2 I thought of was reptiles. Lots of people have lizards and frogs that require a very high temperature and very high humidity for survival. I ran across quite a few options including something else that was quite helpful to learn about which are ceramic heaters which screw in to standard light sockets. That way you can get controlled heat without the damaging UV light. Also, the ZooMed option is so inexpensive compared to other units that I'd be concerned if it were strong enough to control the load from a refrigerator.

I'm a little concerned about the temp and humidity overshoot as mentioned by Kaiser Soze so I've got some more investigation. My wife gave me the thumbs up for purchases around the start of December so I expect to have a decision made by then and just need to purchase a fridge and pull the trigger.

Careful with the hydroponic controllers, some are dehumidifier controllers and not humidifier controllers, yet some are both.

Good call Martin, closer reading showed me this, "If either the temperature or humidity exceeds the setpoint, the unit activates equipment to reduce levels."

I'll read more carefully in the future.

I'd buy that humidifier regardless of need. It's kinda awesome.

BTW - regarding the ceramic heat lamps, factor in that you also need to buy an eddison ceramic lamp fitting, not use a regular plastic one. They're pretty commonly available, on ebay etc and from reptile shops.

OK this seems to be a better product than what I ordered so I've now ordered it. I'll figure out how to wire it once I get it. May attached a 110 female plug to the end using a flat doner extension cord that way I can run the cord through the door seal on the frig.

I'll let you know how it works out and post some pictures.
