Smoked Cod - Cost Effective?

Smoked Cod - Cost Effective?

I know curing/smoking is not about money, more about personal taste and knowing what goes into the processing, but at the (good) fishmonger where I bought the cod, the raw fish was 10ish/kg and the smoked cod which I've eaten before and is pretty good was 9ish/kg.

Batman,

htere are big differences in the price of cod wholesale depending on the type of cod, the port it is landed at and a few other factors.

The reult is that the cheaper stuff lends itself to smoking as it is usually the smaller/thinnner fish and may be originally frozen at sea rather than the fresh stuff you are seeing on the slab.
