Smoking with chestnut.

Anyone tried smoking with chestnut?

I was working with some chestnut a couple of weeks ago, in France, making new shutters. We had a cold snap, so I bunged some offcuts into the wood burner, burnt really nicely and slowly. I shut the wood burner down too far one night, and some smoke came into the room, it smelt really nice! Anyway, I brought some offcuts back with me, going to do some smoked Polish sausages with it, see what it's like.

From what Ive seen chestnut is ok for use as smoking wood. But im looking at a U.S. site so I dont know if what you have is a different type.
