Wooden Smokehouse

I saw this link on another board and it got me thinking...seems like the materials cost around $180 USD...
I talked to a guy I work with who has construction experience....it's starting to look like this wooden smokehouse is going to be a go once the weather breaks.

Nice Smokehouse, Just hope nobody confuses it for an outhouse after a few cold ones! :lol:

Yep I'm thinking of doing the same with the cold smoke generator being worked on by Darren, Dave and Hoggy.

Different versions but very interesting... for a smoke house we will have to go with something more industrial in size.

As I am writing this I am munching on a smoked turkey leg done on the weekend. The office is in a fit, with the smell, I have not seen so much traffic.

I'm thinking something that size...would hold alot of meat...I'm thinking about making it 5ftx5ft and about 6ft high....

think 4X4...

plywood sheets come 4x4x8 so only one will be required and ther is no seam to worry about. I am concerned with air flow and Dave's mouse issue, Last thing we need is 5 poonds of fish sampled on. I am thinking of using expanded metal on the sides with sliding doors to control air / heat flow.

I like the propane burner, but would like the option of using hardwood charcoal.

If I go with one of those smoke generators, I can deal with heat in numerious ways, even electrically.

Circulation fans may also be in order to even out heat and smoke flow

I worry about plywood because of the glue...but 4x4 is probably a better size..even to get some sheet metal for the inside maybe...
as for the burner...and or hardwood...a small cast iron stove might do the trick..
Air flow...I'm going to put a chimeny on the top...and think about fans.

I made a 4x4x4 foot smoke box out of plywood. And then have a external smoke box that pipes in the smoke. Depending on if I want a cold smoke or hot smoke I use different lengths of pipe. Also have a electric hot plate that I put inside for more heat if needed. If you season the plywood w/ several dry runs as I did, I don't think you have anything to worry about the glue. Temps won't get that high.

The wooden smokehouse build is becoming a reality��yesterday I picked up the stuff for the foundation, today I stared to dig the foundation and picked up the lumber for the smokehouse�.I�m making sausage tomorrow and the plan is to start building the smokehouse Sunday, it might be done by Monday or Tuesday.

We ended up building the floor and the four walls today�tomorrow the plan is for the roof, door and maybe the pipes, we are going to use concrete board for the inside of the smokehouse and insulate it as well.

We made a little more progress today�We had some things that came up that slowed us down some�.but today we got the rafters hung, the roof on, the back wall finished, and trimmed the overhang�we also picked up the pipe and the hardware for the door�.
