NCPaul Goes to Mayberry

Postby NCPaul » Sat Nov 29, 2014 9:40 pm

Mayberry was a fictional city in the Andy Griffith TV show loosely based on the city of Mt. Airy; one can go there and find all manner of things connected to the show. The Mayberry I went to was Mayberry Meats. :D This is a small farm shop that sells beef and pork, which they raise, and chicken from another producer. The pork comes from Red Wattle hogs. Their website is http://www.mayberrymeats.com.

That's very cool
I ordered a 3-string banjo (Dulcijo) from Michael Fox in Mt. Airy this past summer.

I've just been reading about Red Wattle's; it's an interesting breed.

Did you buy pieces, or a half/whole pig?

Just the pieces shown; next fall I'd like to buy a half hog which I think will dress out at about 130 # (60 Kg). Don't mention this to my wife. :D They let the hogs roam and forage on acorns to supplement their diet. The fatback was a welcome sight to me since I was down to trim for the Christmas salami.

It looks like it would be about that weight, by the amount of back fat.

Fat like that's a rare sight over here. I'm somewhat jealous.

... with the exception of QWF's of course.
