Thanks for the help again. I greased up the planetary mechanism, no change. Checked the belt, it looked old and stiff but not slipping. I opened up the grease point on the gearbox and it looked like nice clean grease. I had no way of easily forcing fresh grease in thorough there so dribbled teflon bike chain lube in through the juicer attachment point. No different last night but today it sounds like a new machine. No crunching noises anymore!!!

Kenwood Spares

There have been a few requests for smaller stuffing tubes for the Kenwood mixer/stuffing attachment. The price of Kenwood spares can be quite expensive so make your own.

I made one for sheeps casings a few years ago and works really well.

Its only a cut down plastic funnel available from any supermarket. I thought this will do until I find a better one, but I just never got round to it. Cut the funnel down until it just fits the mixer. Its such a good fit theres no mixture seeping out. Its not as good looking as the real thing but a lot cheaper.

That's a really good idea. I bought one of the below about a year ago and use it for doing small test batches of sausages, it holds about 500 gm sausage mix. The nozzles are crap though.

I think what I will do is, use the nozzle retaining screw to mark the hole size on a funnel, then mark from that line down the size of the lip inside the retaining screw, cut the funnel there. I can the heat the funnel and with the retaining screw turned upside down, press the funnel to create a lip to fit the retaining screw.

It's a good job at least I know what I'm talking about...

It isn't so much stripping, as slipping. The belt stretches. the teeth start slipping on the cogs, and it sounds as if all hell has broken loose. If the beater turns, the belt hasn't broken. If it makes much more noise as it kneads, is slipping.

Simple to fit a new belt, if they supply them.

Having read these posts I think I may send the Major off for a service, 40 might be good value if I don't have any hassle........

Tempted to give it a go though.

I prefer the big hammer option :) What's wrong with with it Rich? My 9 series is 40 years old and survived a catering college before I got hold of it...

It might be worth assembling yourself a service pack of the bits and pieces you may need in the future while you still can.

Interesting find Dave, I had looked on that site, but searched for a707, that search returns all obselete items.

Sorry to ask silly question - is there a difference between the 707 and an a707?? I need some new feet, a belt would be good, I guess inspecting the planetary gear is a good idea. Could be pricey.... might check what I get for 40 from the service company I found.

I'm not sure if there is a difference between the a707 and 707. Maybe ask your service guys?

The service guys suggest there is an a707 and an a707a, the difference being in the planetary hub, he states there is no 707.

I think I might have to call the spares people up.

Or send it away......
