We're all mad

Introductions and chatter

We're all mad

Postby johnfb » Mon Jun 30, 2008 8:00 pm

I have had to put up with my wife and kids making fun of my sausage making and pork curing for ages now...although they don't mind scoffing the results down.
They don't understand the excitement of the whole process and seem to get great joy out of my mothering the sausages as I make them and bag them softly into the vac bags.
I have started making bread again in the last month and am equally excited about this venture too, I have planted chillies and peppers, tomatoes and potatoes in large pots around the back garden.

In an effort to defend my undertakings I have showed my wife some of the posts and pictures on the forum...telling her that "look, all these guys are doing it too!"

Her answer......"they are all mad too!"

Sorry everyone....I guess we are all mad.....

Well I know for a fact that I'm not mad.
The voices in my head told me so. :P

I think my 17 year old step daughter thinks I'm certifiable. Apart from all the bread, sausage, bacon, kippers etc, and butchering a deer in the back garden,I now have four fleeces drying in the sun ready for spinning into fabulous wool. The sight of me at the spinning wheel will probably convince her that I really am an old witch!

Seriously though, the real madness would be to return to buying everything ready made.

Cheers

Jen

Agreed, Jenny...and the funny thing is that neither my wife, or kids, will eat a processed sausage or rasher now. And they all love my pastrami.
They all want to eat my bread and rolls, which I have been asked now to make for my in-laws, and my daughter was whooping with delight last night in the back garden as she saw the potatoes starting to poke up out of the soil. (I planted some late just to see what would happen)

I think they might be the mad ones........

Got to agree with you all, having been called a pig murderer and a pig killer this morning whilst tucking into a lovely home cured ham sandwich from the pig that we had delivered at the weekend I am pretty sure people don't understand.

That said, most of them are happy enough to help take it off your hands when it's offered.
