Thanks Shirl - so glad you were around! Yes it definitely says double cream (have kept the carton, label, and even found the receipt just in case. I still have the Kenwood running after 1 hr 45 minutes and it still hasn't turned. I'm going to try what you say because yes, I do have a naturally warm house. I'll report back.

Yeah keep us updated. It seems that the cream is easier to turn at room temp but any warmer and its a buggar!

I really think that it will be fine after you've chilled it again. Sometimes if I've got loads of reduced cream and got bored after a while I just put the cartons back in the fridge and start again next day. I've never noticed any problems letting it warm up and cool down again.

PS being a yorkshire lass myself I know how warm it is up north :D

ok it's back in the fridge but I must make a confession now. I am actually killing myself laughing at my own misfortune. It's a case of "How have the mighty fallen" and poetic justice because of all the crowing I have been doing about my first attempt which was, frankly a wild success. I realise now I had the cream sitting out for quite a long time (maybe half the day) so there is an important lesson learnt!

We are all on a learning curve.... when I first made butter I showed it proudly to my family and announced "Look its yellow and looks like real butter"!! God knows what I was expecting it to look like! :shock: :D

I've just made my first batch, its just lovely stuff! I was staggered how much butter I got from one large pot of cream, and the buttermilk will go into my next loaf of bread. Fab.

I've spent this afternoon doing butter. I had 6 x 600ml pots in. 3 came from Tesco @ �1.67 each, and three from Morrisons @ �1.50 each. After making the butter, the yield from the Morrisons dbl cream was greater.

I have had the same with Cheese, (Tesco v Morrison) and Morrison was the greater yield.

I can't get to use the buttermilk in a loaf as I am being harrassed by cats for the stuff!

Well here's my report on my failed cream/butter. Total failure. Chilled it again and then had another go and it just stayed stuck at the whipped stage. Gave it up and put it back in the fridge until today when I have been beating it to death. Well I finally killed it. It still looked beautifully whipped cream (at one point almost like clotted cream but then it slackened again) but eventually tasted rancid to me so down the sink it went! Can't imagine what was so different between attempts one and two. I'll have to reflect on this and then summon up the courage to have another go.

Hi Jack.

My butter making is shown on my blog but I don't think I'm allowed to give out the address. Its quick and easy enough to do, just whack it in the Kenwood if you have one, cover with a towel and off you go! :D

I don't see a problem with advertising your blog. Best thing to do is go to your user profile:

Then add your blog as your 'website' This will show up in all your posts as a WWW icon at the bottom.
