This is the recipe for English flapjacks, it probably tastes better than fricasee of cactus or even prairie oysters.

Flapjacks

4 oz butter or margarine
4 oz brown sugar, packed
4 tbsp golden syrup
1 1/2 lbs rolled oats
4 oz raisins

Preheat the oven to 175C.
Combine the butter, brown sugar and golden syrup in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until butter and sugar have melted. Stir in the oats and raisins until coated. Pour into an 8 square (or round) baking tin. The mixture should be about 1 thick. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden. Cut into squares, then leave to cool completely before removing from the pan.
