Avatars

Postby thostorey » Mon Dec 12, 2005 4:24 am

I see that the limit on avatar size is 40px x 40px and 6kb. I can't come up with a worthwhile avitar that is that small. I also note that most of the existing avatars exceed the limit by a large margin????Anything I try that is larger is immediately rejected??? :?

I may be wrong but I think the size limitation is for "space on the server" reasons. If you use the (Link to off-site avatar) option and host it yourself this may allow you to use a larger avatar.

I've just increased the avatar size to 150x150.

I just uploaded my new one yesterday...

Whether it was worth changing to this is another question! :D

I may yet change it again...

I think a number of us lost our Avatars in the move to the new server, even though I re-linked mine I still don't see it.

I tried to install an avatar uploaded from my PC, but it failed with a complicated half-screenful of error messages which didn't stay long enough to copy them. The picture meets the size requirements, and I tried twice with the same result.

Eric

(Edit: the error messages say something like "Cannot modify header information...")

Dunno if its in any way relevant, but the only avatars that are currently showing for me are Franco's, Spuddy's, DarrinG's Oddley's and Paul Kribs'.

So, what's different about those?

Those avatars that are working are hosted off-site. Must be a problem with the locally hosted avatars.

It is relevant Dougal. All of our avatars are linked to offsite images.

I'll look into the problem of uploading them.

In the meantime if anyone wants their avatars setup then PM me and I'll get them hosted somewhere so you can link to them.

Sorry, cross posted with Aris there.

OK

I think I've sorted it. Please try again and let me know if any problems.

As you can see I'm now back :) Georgie, go to your profile, delete your avatar and reselect it.
