What should my cured ham smell like?

What should my cured ham smell like?

I was taking it out of the salt to hang it.
The smell is like what you get at the butchers + what you get when you sniff shop bought parma ham.

Is this right? What should it smell like?

If it smells of rotten socks or something else other than the product you're trying to achieve THEN I'd be worried.
