CSG cleaning

Postby Vindii » Sat Apr 14, 2012 4:33 pm

I think I read about some people putting the CSG in the dishwasher to clean it. Is that true? If so please confirm it wont get all over the inside of the dishwasher so I don't piss off the wife...

If not that whats the best way to clean it?

I use carburetor cleaner which, of course, has to be done outside with no flames around. Then I wash it with hot soapy water. I don't think that I would chance that dishwasher route, you might end up with black tar all over the inside.

I've just done mine with a blow-lamp. It got all of the black coke off in seconds.

I use a toothbrush that I store with the CSG.

I rinse it under the tap to get rid of excess soot/ash and bung it in the top rack of the dishwasher ;)
Curing is not an exact science... So it's not a sin to bin.

I soak mine in a very strong solution of liquid dishwasher detergent mixed with some boiling water and agitate it with a toothbrush.

I have been using a stainless steel sieve instead of the CSG recently with some very good results and this is easier to clean as the mesh is slightly bigger.
(Just rinse it under the tap and sling in the dishwasher).
