Salinometer

Happy New Year to one and all

Do any of you use a Salinometer in your curing ( is it necessary?) and if so do you know where I could purchase one? as they seem to be thin on the ground in the internet world !!

Many thanks

I don't wet brine, but if you want a salinity meter, Google is your friend or Ebay or Amazon

Or a plain old fashioned and cheap salinometer

Sorry for the late repy, thanks tristar, the plain old cheap one is what I was looking for but that is in the US so not really worth getting as the postage would probably negate it's cheapness :(

Anyone else use one? and did you get it in the UK?

I use one religiously. Its a wonderful tool and has prevented me from making some stupid mistakes. (like leaving the salt out of the brine - yeah, I'm talented  )

When you get yours do a search for one of Chuckwagon's posts on their use. He included an information attachement to his post that is very helpful in really understanding how it can be used.

BTW - while you are waiting on yours to arrive it would be helpful in the long run to find a graduated cylander about 2 inches in diameter and a foot or so long. Many times I've run into instances where the brine isn't as deep as the salinometer is long. I'm sure you will run into the same problem and this is a wonderful solution.
Patience please, I'm just trying to get on the learning curve.

Here is another three places to buy a brineometer.

Being right, only comes from being wrong.

Now if I'de had the sense to call it a Brineometer and not a Salinometer I might have got a bit further in my searches  , oh well, you live and learn.

Many thanks to all of you
