Dog Sausage (pet food)

Postby spudie » Sun Dec 20, 2015 4:56 am

Hi Everyone.
Merry Xmas to you all.

Have for sometime been on the hunt for a Dog Food Sausage recipe.
Have seen a few that look like written with no knowledge at all.

Hoping to find something pretty robust with veg included.
Don't mind offal of any type.

My dog is medium sized and is sick of dry food.

Welcome to the forum. :D I meant to do it earlier but I was waiting for a reply from a friend that has dogs (I don't). She cooks in a crock pot (slow cooker) 1 c brown rice, 3 1/2 c water, 1 pound of green beans, 2 sweet potatoes cut up, 6 carrots cut up and 4 boneless chicken breasts. When done, she runs all of this through a food processor (you could use a grinder). She adds the mixture to the dogs' dry food. She will sometimes use broccoli, squash or spinach as a vegetable component and has used beef or turkey in place of the chicken (organ meat would be an option here I would guess). Her final comment was that there are a lot of homemade pet food recipes on the internet, probably like finding sausage recipes. Hope this helps.

I have a recipe for a homemade wet dog food that I use with foster Greyhounds. It is also a crockpot/slow cooker recipe using chicken leg and thigh quarters, mostly, with other additions to make a more balanced food, including raw veggies. I usually freeze it in muffin-tin portions and keep it froze, only thawing out a few at a time for use. It could easily be cased, but would have no preservatives. If you are thinking along the lines of the dog food sausages that look like summer sausage and are often used as toppers on other dog food, as treats, or even sometimes as the primary food, I've never seen a recipe for anything like those.
