The loaf I tried was a dismal failure. I checked the sell-by date on the yeast and it was sometime last millenium :oops: (I don't do much baking at home) , so I'll have another go with some fresh ingredients.
Vegetarian food: fine as a side.
Vegetarians: not bad, but they don't crisp up very well.
Vegans: should go back to Vega.

Better luck next time around Fricandeau! My Mother went to try the recipe out yesterday with the same results because of her yeast! :cry:

If at first you don't succeed, feed it to the ducks. But only if you don't like ducks :D .

I'm going to do some tonight with fresh yeast.

Great to hear Ken Boy! Did you follow the original recipe or did you alter it?I was just looking back on page 10 and didnt realize that you had asked about the cinnamon sugar amount! I didnt measure but it probably would have been about 2 tablespoons worth,next time I would add a little bit more because the next day you couldnt taste it very much. I think the next time I try no knead raisin bread I will try using 2/3 whole wheat flour and 1/3 plain white flour just to see how it turns out.The other day my Mother in-law made some no knead bread following the original recipe but used potato water for the water and it was fabulous! Just another idea for you folks! :) Best wishes!

Hi Georgie,
I used the original recipe 2 cups of white 1cup wholemeal I added a drop of extra water because I found it too dry to blend an extra 1/3 cup water then placed it in the airing cupboard for approx 20 hrs for it to work. When the wife came home from work she finished it off and cooked it :wink: :wink: :lol:

Hello Ken Boy! I found that I had to add extra water too,gladly it all worked out fine in the end. I am sure glad Patty started this thread or I wouldnt have tried this bread recipe out,thank you Patty! :)

I used my usual bread machine recipe and let the machine do the kneading, then tipped the dough into a hot cast iron casserole. It worked a treat, here's a picture:

It will go well with the pastrami I've just finished.

Here's my recipe for bread. I use a machine most of the time because I have a bit of a disability that makes things like kneading difficult.
Anyway, I never vary the proportions whatever machine I use, I always use the basic white setting and I add flour/water if needed in the early stages of the programme until the right dough is achieved, then I let the machine do the work. I must say it has worked very well combined with the hot dish method, and should be OK if you make bread by hand from scratch.

Ingredients:
3.5 cups bread flour, I use 1.5 wholemeal and 2 white.(Waitrose extra strong Canadian is good)
1.5 cups warm water
2 tblps sugar
2 tblsp dried skimmed milk
2 tblsp olive oil
2 tsps salt
1 tsp lemon juice
2-3 tblsp mixed seeds (you can leave these out if you want)
2 tsps dried yeast

That lot goes into my bread machine in the order required, I've never used it to make bread by hand, should be OK though.

I have made the cinnamon and raisin loaf I used 3 cups of white flour 5 tablespoons of brown Sugar plus three heaped tea spoons of Ground Cinnamon & two good handfuls of raisins I cooked it for the time on the recipe it tasted brill the only mistake I made I left it too long to Brown of the top and caught the raisins on the top of the loaf. oops: :oops: :oops:
