I bought a pack of Ciabatta bread mix in Lidl during the week. Made it yesterday. Very impressed with the results. Has anyone tried it ...if not it is worth a go.

John

PS it was €1.49 for enough mix to make 2 healthy sized loaves.

John,
I use it quite a lot for ciabatta including pizza bases and rolls.
Are you using a mixer?

I did one by hand and one using the dough hook on the food processor. It is a very wet mix but both worked out fine.

How does it fair as a pizza base.

Very similar to a pizza hut thick base if allowed a slight second rise and par baked before the toppings are added, bake with a little oil and cornmeal on the tray. Or rolled and topped before the second rise, similar to pizza express.

I've been using this http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/2984/jasons-quick-coccodrillo-ciabatta-bread ciabatta recipe lately which is even wetter, it's a much better crust and a chewy crumb.

I've never tasted an Italian made ciabatta so I'm not really qualified to judge. However I was talking to a friend recently whose married to an Italian chef that's gonna make me a pukka ciabatta :D

PS the "Jason" mentioned in the recipe has he's surname misspelt and he's a contributor to this forum
