Forum header change

Postby vagreys » Tue Feb 12, 2013 7:23 pm

Franco's web designer has made a change to the forum header. It is now beige with links to Facebook and Twitter. If you are still seeing the original, darker blue header, then the header is cached and refreshing the screen should update the cache and show you the newer, lighter shade of pale.

I can see the change - but, in all honesty, preferred it before. Can the facebook and twitter links be put above the search/advanced search box please - clicking the advanced search link is now a case of trying to miss the Twitter button.

The facebook link goes to an image instead of to Facebook.

The web designer is making a number of changes as he goes. He may still be working on it.

Thanks Tom,

It looked superb in it's original (updated) form; it looked classy. I'm sorry if it offends anyone, but each change makes it look worse than the last. The links to Facebook and Twitter could have been added as small images in the top right-hand corner (similar in size to a favicon, or rss feed image). This could have been done without 'breaking' the forum style. The new background-color for the header doesn't fit with any of the rest of the board.

If we are to have the header as above, maybe Andy will change the forum style to one that suits?

I am sorry that you find it offensive. I agree, it's critical, but any adverse comment will be. If we ban adverse comment on a forum of this nature, then we might as well all go home.

If hand on heart, you can say that the orange/brown of the new header matches the rest of the board design, then fair enough. Personally, I don't think it does.

However, I accept that it's what Franco wants that counts.

The original blue header of the default forum theme caused Franco's logo to look murky as the luminosity of the blue and the logo were too similar, something had to be done quickly, and it was. As you know, I'm not a foodie but I don't personally like to see blue near food at all unless the food is very vibrant.

We're trying to implement a theme at the moment but it will still have the logo and the social networking links, they won't be very small I don't expect because it's obviously there to help support the forum via Franco's store. This will perhaps change several times so don't dwell on it too much until it's settled. I'm supposed to be doing my proper work, and Franco is very busy so it could take a few days.

There's no real offense taken, so don't worry about it. People in glass houses :)

Franco hasn't OK'd it yet and I was a bit concerned it might be too narrow in the page width or maybe too wide on a small screen. Doesn't seem to be responsive design.

See how it goes...

Hi,
Personally I thought that the old new header was better than this latest version.
Do we really need twitter and facebook on this great forum.
Pretty soon we all need an IT degree to work it all. Do we really need all this?
Combine them all together and it's becoming confusing to me.
Must be old age!!!!!
Cheers,
Jan.

Links to Twitter and Facebook were part of the pre-conversion forum header, too.
