Ah, memories. I used to live across the street from the fields of Broadview, the horse farm where the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase was run for years, before moving to its new location at The Meadows. The Gold Cup was run on Derby Day. There was a jump in the corner of the field about 100 ft. from my house, so we used to make a bunch of finger foods, always including she-crab toast points, and thin-sliced sirloin on toast with bourbon butter, among them, and a pitcher of mint julep. We'd climb up onto the roof of the house, where we could see the entire course, haul up our snacks and juleps, and watch the races. We'd listen to the Derby on the radio. Good times. Thanks for the memory.
