Thanks for all the info Gus. I, for one, have found it most helpful.

Enjoy the cheese.

Dishwasher!? ..yes I forgot, & for the record I do & will, (head injury) so apologies in advance, I do tend to use searches on sites but things can & do escape me.

I've go an 80% working dishwasher at the moment so by hand will have to do, don't wish to incur more problems with the dishwasher whilst I work out the cost of repair vs replacement & lifespan thereafter (heating knacked out when we ran out of salt & used "all in one tablets instead, how manufacturers get away with it i'll never know, you need a full salt container to kickstart the process) , at worst I will have a nice nice stainless box to rip the guts out & convert!

(you hear so much on fridges as smokers why never dishwashers)?

I clean the CSG by tipping it upside down (outdoors) and banging on a wall or some old bricks. That gets rid of all the ash and then I oak and scrub it with a toothbrush after 5 or 6 uses (sometimes more) depending on the degree of the carbon buildup.

Just an update with regards to the amount of OLD thread regarding suitability with the CSG.

I've now completed 6 full burns without problem using Ashwoods recommended dust (beech & oak, supplied summer 2013).

Working like a dream, (i'm clearly getting better at not over-tamping the dust, so little residual ash that after running my finger along the mesh having shaken the burnt stuff out, that I was able to simply reload, re-light & replenish my smokebox.

Think any past issues have well & truly been put to bed!
Just need to convince the wife we "need" another variant to try.
