Has anyone purchased one of these: http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national-deal/monte-regio/26611957?p=8&nlp=&CID=UK_CRM_1_0_0_255&a=1664&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&sid=8d141b5d-e47b-4fb6-ba70-607b149e73a5&division=national-deal&uh=d5698bad-93f7-4d14-86cb-ee69d9272677&date=20131209&sender=rm&s=body&c=deal_img&d=deal-page&utm_campaign=monte-regio-26611957, or one of the earlier and cheaper deals (I think for smaller legs or shoulders)?

I'm quite tempted, especially having just cut into a paletta de Serrano purchased in a French supermarket a couple of months ago. Don't think it will last until crimbo!

No, I haven't bought one but it looks a good offer! I could be tempted but Groupon has had a bit of bad press :?

Believe that's the set up they sell at my local wholesalers for the £60 +/- mark!

Hi Martin, if you're looking for another 'Paletta' then this one is back on offer for the next couple of days and comes with the full cutting kit plus olive oil. How does the price compare to the one you picked up in France ?

Hi,

Just a few comments. One of the biggest differences in ibérico ham quality comes from the feeding. There are 3 qualities: "cebo" (feed with cereals and fodder), "recebo" (mixed feed with cereals&fodder / acorn) and "bellota" (feed with acorn). When the quality is not specified, you are most likely buying the lowest quality, "cebo".

For that price, and according to previous Groupon offers from the same provider, that's what you would receive. It does not mean it will be a bad ham, it may be pretty good, specially if you are not used to consume it, but just do not expect top-notch quality.

MonteRegio is not a bad provider, but still you would find that type of ham in Spain a bit less expensive, around 90-110 EUR, though not including transport to UK.

I've ordered one to line up after the French supermarket one is finished, which won't be long. Seems good value, the French one is smaller (about 4 kg) and cost about €49 without a stand or oil.

The same supplier is selling them on his site for 179 euros, which makes these seem a decent price off Groupon - I'm getting tempted by the day, over 1540 sold already so are very popular.

Bookers, (sorry didn't see this was still active, thus the late reply), i'm off there in a few days so will check the current stock & report back if the brain lets me!

I didn't know Bookers sold it. Just checked their web site, it's listed under "Jamon Serrano Bodega & Kit" as £60 for a 7 kg pack. I assume that's a ham or shoulder anyway, the description is a little lacking in descriptiveness.

If it's like the ones that Makro have, it's a shoulder.

The one I saw at the Makro store in Leicester was definitely a shoulder.

They are now owned by Booker, which is why I thought it may be relevant.

However, the one that Makro are selling online must be a back leg as it says Jamon Curado on the picture.

As far as I know, Jamon, like ham, can only be the back leg.

:? :? :?

Now offering 4.5kg shoulder for £35.50 without the stand etc. or £42.50 with the serving implements and olive oil. I think they sold approx 2000 last time it was on offer so they have a good following.

I remembered this thread when reading this morning about a fraud detected in the hams offered by the same producer (Monte Regio) in other group-buying website (in Spanish): http://blog.ibergour.com/2013/12/13/eng ... oratorios/
