Well, the temperatures have started to fall as this arctic vortex slides south and east toward Virginia. It was 17.2°C a couple of hours ago, and it's 8.9°C, now. The temps won't stop falling until it reaches about -15°C, early tomorrow morning. With winds at 20-30mph, windchills are expected be in the -26° to -29°C range. That's colder than BriCan's walk-in freezer!

And to think that this was two days ago ---- now it only seems a distant memory --- on a somber note I do hope that all the repairs was done before this onslaught --- stay safe my friend

Mind your pipes and put plastic over your windows!

-17 will kill jasmine plants and many types of grapes. Not sure if that concerns you but it ruined one of mine out here in a cold snap a few years ago.

We've gone from a high of 17.2°C to -8.9°C in less than 21 hours, so far

Our lowest was -12.8°C with a windchill of -20.5°C at around 8am today. Temp has recovered to -12.2°C and will continue to rise a few more degrees today, so we are past the worst of it.

i'm still wearing shorts in -25 ...just like Florida.

I can understand how people who aren't accustomed to this type of weather might be thinking hell is finally freezing over, but sad to say this is not that unusual around here. :(

I really don't mind it. Some of my fondest memories are of ice fishing trout through three feet of ice then stacking them like cordwood when they froze. My coldest weather was -52C without any wind north of Calgary, taking a van to work that was so draughty cigarette smoke when up and out the roof before it could pool in the cab. It was a beautiful sunny day. Now, here in B.C., my best day was -14 with wind on the top of a mountain during hunting season. I think northerners (Russians, Canadians et al) get an affinity for it after a while.

It is what you get used to. Down here, in Virginia, such temps aren't unheard of, but it isn't commonly this cold. I went to high school in northern Indiana, and was there for the blizzards of '77 and '78, and we went for 10 consecutive days with a high below zero, and about 40 consecutive days below freezing. But sub-freezing and sub-zero days were common in winter, when the lake would freeze over to several feet thick, and people would drive jeeps out on the lake to ice fish. Where I live now, average winter temps are in the 40's and our historical average total annual snowfall is 11". Buffalo, we ain't.

Hope all are staying warm and safe in the bad weather. The bad weather I lived through in Scotland somehow sounds easy in contrast...

Stay safe.
