Caulk Gun

Postby Fatman » Tue Nov 30, 2004 4:17 pm

It came to me the other day if I was to experiment in sausage making for the first time, what could I use before making any investment in real equipment.

Well a walk down one of the lanes in my local DIY store gave me the answer a Caulk Gun, as anyone ever tried one or know of any stories using anything similar ?

Regards

That's not a bad idea - but what would you use for a tube?

You can buy empty and large diameter tubes to go with the gun.

How large and where? How do you get the piston in the tube back out? Are they single use?

Caulking Gun

Postby Parson Snows » Sat Dec 04, 2004 10:20 am

Caulking Gun

We dont have any B & Qs in Thailand so I am not sure what the final cost would be by you buying a caulking gun and modifying it to suit sausage stuffing. There are numerous companies in the UK that stock hand sausage stuffers. One is called King Chef Sausage Maker available for approx. 23 pounds sterling from

Wrightway Marketing Ltd (Ideal Home Mail Order)
Ideal Home House
Newark Road
Peterborough
PE1 5WG
Cambridgeshire
Tel: (01733 777310)

This includes

 standard sausage making machine
 collagen casings
2 plastic nozzles (small and large)
 sausage mixes
 instruction/recipe book

I used to have one of these and it worked quite well until it broke (the ratchet mechanism) some years ago. As I couldnt replace it in Thailand, I did what you have suggested.

Though it looks somewhat unusual it works fine.
Hope that this is of some use to you

Kind regards

Parson Snows

Check out Allied Kenco in Houston under "jerky".

I am using a 1/2 lb unit from Nesco. I like the small size despite the fact that I have to charge it twice per pound. I only put up 1 lb at a time so that's no problem for me.

If you are stuffing large quantities then the Northern Tool unit is the way to go:
