We can get BBC World here though we only get Jamie Oliver "Oliver's Twist" and Rick Stein's Food Heroes, at least at the moment.

I appeareared recently on Rick Steins heroes programme, he is exactly the same in real life as he is in the flesh. A bloke you would go down to the pub with.

So, did anyone watch River cottage? They had some interestings stuff there - in particular, they made a cold smoker out of an old cider barrel.

I watched it. It just goes to show you can make a smoker out of almost anything.

The problem is sourcing the wood chips at a reasonable price, as some meats need smoking for days therefore an expensive business.

Smoking Materials

Oddley

if doesn't have to cost that much. Bradley Smokers manufacture a long burning charcoal and as to the wood it's mostly chips and shavings and then not a great deal of it. You can always try other materials. Dried corn cobs work well as do coconut husks, Jasmine tea and the dried out cores of fresh pineapples.

What is the difference between using chips, shavings, or dust? Do they have different purposes, or do you need to burn them differently?

Thanks for the tip on the tv programmes, Taped them both and watched yesterday. Jimmys farm was very interesting and goes to show how much hard work goes into getting a decent bit of bacon. God bless Blaze "the only gay in the pigpen" Why cant you eat a pig if it only died of an heart attack? "seems a waste of bacon to me" Also there has been alot of Rick Steins food heros on over Christmas were you on any of the ones that were shown?

Shaun

Parsons

Jet's de Houblon or Hop Asparagus to me and you, the most expensive vegetable in the world.

It mainly showed one of the Gypsy farm workers stringing the hops!

I personally have had more airtime with Skynews, BBC2, Channel 4 , BBC1 with Country File and much more media coverage with the broadsheets and tabloids along with a feature in the Sydney Morning Herald and that American lady who recently had taxproblems , forgot her name.

This sounds all very Bolche, not like me to blow my own trumpet!

Sorry guys
