Casting for veggi bangers

Postby mrooyen » Sat Feb 05, 2005 3:19 pm

HI

I am going to make some South African "Boere wors" for myself and I don't mind using Ox or hog casting. But my wife does not eat meet so I have to make her some veggi ones.

Is there a non animal casting available?

Cheers

Hi

Firstly welcome to the forum.

If you are sure that you want to put the veggie bangers into a casing then you will need to find some cellulose ones after the preparation you will then need to blanch these in hot water then peel the casing back off as it is not edible.
Another method would be to form them though a large stuffing horn & wrap them in cling film until firm.
Alternativley make them into burgers.

Hope this helps

You have set yourself a real task. The only thing I can think of is wrap the veggi mixture in vine leaves and bake them.

Please let us know how you solved this puzzle.

Vegetarians should just steer clear of sausages. How are you going to make Vegetarian Boerewors? Replace the meat with soya I suppose? I just won't taste the same.
