Grind Size

At the risk of making myself appear even more stupid I'd like to clear something up.

I've read discussions about grind size and where they refer to a size of say 3/16" I've always assumed this refered to the size of the holes in the plate, am I right?

Firstly there is no such thing as a stupid question only a stupid answer.
However you are right the size relates to the holes in the plate.

I had assumed this was the case but then it occured to me that just because I assumed it was right didn't actually make it so. Best to check.
