Where can I buy fruit juice concentrates OT

Postby _Darkstream_ » Tue Jul 05, 2005 3:30 pm

OT I know, but does anyone know where I can buy concentrated fruit juices in the UK?

These would be like the base concentrate used for some made up cartons of fruit juice that you buy at the supermarket. made from concentrate.

Some of you might remember that before supermarkets started selling made up fruit juice in cartons, you could buy the concentrate in frozen blocks. This is the sort of thing I am after.

I need them to make up low/no sugar soft drinks for myself. I cannot stand the taste of aspartame and it upsets my digestion.

There are now a lot more members in the forum, some of them I guess in the food industry.

Any help or suggestions most welcome.

If you don't like nutrasweet/Asperatame, try Sucralose (also known as Splenda). More info at http://www.splenda.com/ - it's the best non-sugar sweetner i've tasted. It is fairly new too.

Thanks guys. I KNOW about SPLENDA. Been using it for 12 months, it is the best gift to diabetics ever.

I have made a trial homemade lemonade, real lemon juice, soaked pith plus splenda, and put into Waitrose highland spring carbonated. Delicious, BUT a lot of work.

HOWEVER, the experiment was a success, therefore my quest for the concentrate, to make a shortcut.

Otherwise a "soft" drink that is cold, refreshing, and healthy is 5% abv German pilsner. But not much leeway with those!

I will follow up the leads.

Aris is right though it tastes just like real sugar, that's because effectively it is real sugar that's been altered so that it cannot be broken down by the body.

Don't overdo it though as it's also a very good laxative  (because it's non-digestible).

A warning about the spoon-for-spoon splenda - it is mixed with maltodextrin which has a very high Glycemic Index. Rather buy the tablets and crush them down.
