Anybody got a light?

Postby Deerstalker » Wed Sep 14, 2005 7:05 pm

Hi everybody, although I've been here since Jan 05, I've only mooched about. Franco will know me, as will Twoscoops and Erikht. I shoot loads of game from deer to snipe. I also smoke my own salmon, eels, seatrout and seafish.

I thought I'd come to the place where smoking is politically correct for some advice. :D

Welcome to the forum Deerstalker.

Yep you are right smoking is definitely ok with us. I don't smoke yet I'm still fagged out.

I have seen you posting on HFW's forum. I occasionally have a browse over there to see what's cooking.

Hi deerstalker and welcome

I do the same as you shoot, fish and smoke. Out of interest what do you use for smoking?

Hi Deerstalker,
I too have seen you on a couple of other forums.
You are, of course, more than welcome here.

The smoker I had built for me by a friend who's a chippy. It sort of looks like a ty bach or privy

Welcome Deerstalker

Any chance you can elaborate on details of your smoker arrangements. My other hobby is carpentry and I would be very interested in the construction details.

Regards, Paul Kribs

Bit hard to explain, but here goes. It's a marine ply box about 3' x 3' x 4' high with a pitched roof. the front is a door. Along the top on each side are ventilation holes that can be opened or closed. Inside, there are battons at intervals where oven racks or hazel sticks can be placed. At the bottom there is a metal plate with lots of holes drilled in it which acts as a baffle. Below that is the wooden floor with a hole cut in it large enough to take a flue liner. The flue liner ends up in a covered brick grate where the sawdust is burned. The box is on four legs about 2' long.

Clear as mud eh? :D

Sounds silly aris but it's situated up against, and behind the kitchen. You either can't see it at all (around the corner) or it's up against your nose. Difficult one. :?
