Pata Negra

Anyone tried this air-dried ham from Spain? It is supposed to be the top quality ham from black hooved pigs fed only on acorns and aged for at least 36 months. It is delicious, but at 50 quid a kilo - whoa....

If you get real pata negra for 50 a kilo, empty the shop. It's not very expencive at all.

I know some places where they take 180 a kilo for the good stuff. That's 2000 per ham....

50 does seem to be a good price. Looking on the web, whole legs of the stuff cost 50 quid - and that includes a large bone ec.

For anyone interested, I saw it in Costco. Pre-sliced, and in 100g packs.

I used to buy bin waggons from Barcelona and a spanish supplier sent me a whole leg in what I can only describe as a wooden coffin it was huge and tasted brilliant.

You might find some interesting advice in the forum under Spanish Jamn Serrano.
It's nice to see that other people in this country share my enthusiasm for spanish cured ham.
Hopefully the demand will grow and we'll be able to get it in the uk soon
