PH Meter

Has anyone tried one of the cheap PH meters (from China) that have appeared on ebay recently?

If so, how did you get on with it?

Hi Phil,
I have seen them on Ebay as well, I think that the only good thing about them is the price, accuracy? who knows.?
Just imagine having to throw out some good products you made due to an unreliable PH meter.
I am going to buy some test strips to use next winter but I am interested in other members advise.
Regards,
Jan.

I find the test strips a little bit difficult to use. I can never judge which colour really matches. When the strip is wet they look different.

I have tried a soil one in the past but not with much success. However, that one looks far superior to the one I got (which I think had come out of a "Lucky Bag").

Knowing that soil PH meters have been used for a similar job has given me the incentive to revisit it.

Thanks Robert.

Thing with pH meters is that they should idealy be calibrated before each use,so you would need to get some buffer tablets as well.
These are available at different pH values,so you need to get some close to the range you expect your product to be.
They are then dissolved in distilled water up to a specified volume & temperature & used to calibrate the meter.
Buffer soln doesn't store well & again should idealy be made up fresh each time.
If you don't calibrate the meters properly they will give results all over the show.
Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and you won't see him again for the rest of the season.
