Hello I have a Gander Mountain 15 lb stuffer and hate it. It is really hard to turn the handle while stuffing. I have to use two hands to even turn it. This is with the largest horn stuffing fibrous casings for summer sausage. I am am adding water to the sausage mix and I am stuffing right after mixing so I don't think that is the problem. I am looking at a Tre Spade stuffer to replace my stuffer. Has anyone had any experience with these stuffers?

is this a 2 speed stuffer ? if so try the other gear. The high speed gear is only used to raise the piston not stuff.

The stuffer I have is a single speed stuffer. The tre spade stuffer I am looking at is a 2 speed stuffer

Is it lubricated? Does it move freely without any meat in? Have you got the gasket/seal the right way up? I've put the seal the wrong way up myself and it made it very stiff. The stuffer you have looks sturdy enough in the picture, are they metal gears?

I bet you have the seal the wrong way up as SteveW mentions. If Gander has trouble with this stuffer, everybody would know about it by now.
Personally I don't think it's the stuffer but the seal as I had the same problem with mine once, it took a chunk out of the seal before I realised what happened. Now I lightly oil the seal/piston and I am very particular with lowering it into the tube. No trouble since.
Don't spend any money on a new stuffer yet before you have ironed out this problem, I bet it's a very simple
fix.

I have the same stuffer.
The seal is an o-ring, so it's not possible to install in incorrectly.
The gears are steel.

I didn't know it only had an Oring as a seal.Seeing that you are the proud owner of the same model, you can advise Blackriver what is the problem or what he is doing wrong.

If I knew what was causing the problem, I would have already made suggestions.
I haven't had the same problem.
