Food Slicers

Postby J.P. » Thu Dec 29, 2005 3:38 pm

Can anyone recommend any partucular food slicers
(Pref. Electric, but not bothered. and definately under 175)
And something that does the job well.

I know it's putting a lot on the list, but I've seen the one sold here:
Full metal Food slicer MA 2465 and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it and whether it's any good.
(And if anyone has any larger pics of it. It's all very small on the item info)

Mainly will be cutting things like salami, coppa and parma ham on it.

Unlikely to use it for bacon, but... you never know.

And preferabley something that won't chew up the parma ham...
So It's going to have to have a smooth, unserrated, sharp blade.

Any other suggestions or info will be helpful too.

TIA.

TTFN.

Doesn't anyone the MA 2465? or indeed any slicer?

Have a look on Ebay. There are sometimes some very good bargains for electric slicers. Make sure you take into account the postage costs. Some add VAT or PayPal costs. I got mine for 30 and it's fine.

The make is 'Champion' and I don't know what power rating it has, it's not that powerful in use but does what I want and also has a sharp 10" blade. It slices pastrami that you can almost see through.

Thanks for those pics...
...I'll keep an eye out for one of those, or better.

I did see a berkel on there a while ago, but bakalite handle was broken...still I thought about it at 100...
But, was pickup only in chester, and, I don't drive.

So much for that.

I stripped mine down and gave it a good clean and oiled and greased the parts that needed it, also sharpened the blade. It tends to drag raw bacon a bit unless I partially freeze it to stiffen it up a bit. I also run a damp cloth on the exposed blade after about every 5 slices, which helps. It slices cooked meat superbly. I missed out on a commercial sized one 'buyer collects' from Sheerness that went for 20.50p.. unbelievable eh! All cos the wife said I didn't need it, and she consented the following day.. don't you just love 'em.

Cracking!

I do love those manual ones tho'

The Berkel Vintage(Newly mfg'd, but old style manual)
and Antique(Old and reconditioned)

They are Massive, but I think Wonderful pieces of equipment!

But WAAAAAY too expensive...
...If I could only win the lottery!
They would be somewhere on my list...among many many other things... :)

He may well get his price if he finds the right buyer. My local butcher sold his old meat grinder / sausage stuffer (and it was pretty old - perhaps from the 50's?) to a movie studio. They refurbished it and it used it in the Charlie & the Chocolate factory movie in 2005! With the price he got plus his "consulting" fees to show them how to use the machine and make sausages, he was able to buy a brand new fancy machine.
