Cheap stuffer on ebay

Postby BMII » Sun Jan 05, 2014 5:45 pm

I know I said I might have trouble using a manual stuffer but I'm toying with the idea and found this on ebay,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sausage-Fille ... 4ac18ce3bf

I was wondering if anyone had used one?

I think it's aluminium, not sure, but it's not stainless steel, I just thought at that price it was worth a bash, it does one kilo.

Hi Andy,

I bought one of these to take to France so I could make a few sausages there, very popular with some English friends who live there. If you want to make a kilo at a time it works fine. I usually make up a 2-3 kilo batch of sausage meat and keep refilling it. It's easy to use, and the benefit of having a sausage stuffer is that you can take your time and sit down to use it. Could be be an important factor for you.

Thanks Jenny,
As I'm only making small batches I thought it might be manageable and give a better result, I was just worried about the construction of it, one listing said it was aluminium which I wasn't sure about but at that price I'm not expecting pro kit!
Plus as you say I won't have to stand in front of the Kenwood for ages as it'll be quicker to stuff, it comes with I think 5 mtrs of hog casing as well and one of their mixes but I might ask if they can substitute the latter for plain rusk as I like doing my own mixes.

I think I'll have to give it a go :D

Not sure if I should feel guilty about this but.....

Well I ordered the stuffer, it didn't arrive by the time promised, gave it a couple of days then phoned them, they could find no record of the the order despite me having all the details in front of me and Paypal had debited my account, a few minutes later the person on the phone found it after asking me several times if I was sure I'd ordered from them in the first place!
Anyway they agreed to send another one out, it came a day later than promised by courier I use often and is pretty good round here but has a bad rep elsewhere.

Next day the original order arrived via Parcelforce, 10 days late, so I now have 2 of these cheap stuffers with hog casings and their own Cumberland mix which I won't use anyway, I'll use the casings.

I've emailed them twice with other questions with no reply which doesn't impress me so I'm thinking, honest chap as I usually am, and I did offer to send one back if it arrived, sod it, I'll keep both, one for spares just in case.
I don't like the idea of robbing anyone but?

I don't think I should let it bother me, do you?

Could always 'cover' yourself by sending another e-mail informing them that the original order has now arrived and if they wish to arrange for it to be collected then its up to them. If they fail to contact you by a reasonable time then you can assume they don't want it and dispose of it as you think fit.

Returns by both means are free anyway but they don't answer their emails, I didn't have to sign for them, one was left in a bin outside and the other was just handed to me and off she went, if they do check the tracking I have my cover story

Not very satisfied with this stuffer.
I have used it twice, than it broke. The aluminium casing has screw thread on both ends . When stuffing saussage it could not hold the pressure and the screw thread ripped....... penny wise, pound foolish

Looks like mine but I got mine off Amazon.
Mine works fine, had no problems at all but only used it twice.

Generally speaking - you get what you pay for.

A good litmus test of a vendor is to e-mail them with questions BEFORE you buy. If they answer quickly, courteously, enthusiastically, and answer your questions fully - that is a good sign. If not, then be weary - but that doesn't always mean they are a bad vendor. In cases like these check reviews, and get personal recommendations.
