Nisbets have a decent offer on their "Vogue" diamond steel - £12 with tax, P&P included. Not quite as cheap as some of the Ebay offers from the far east, but it seems a good piece of kit at a very reasonable price.

I bought a 12"diamond sharpener some weeks ago, just a different brand.
It works rather well without any hassles.
Leaves all the other steels for dead as far as I am concerned.

Had 2 of these now, normally last about 2 years (home use), very good but they do remove steel from the knives.

I use a well worn old steel for my best knives and the diamond steel for the cheaper knives, they do the job very well, it seems to be the adhesive that bonds the diamond dust that fails after time.

Regards
Gary.

I've had one for three years, they work beautifully. I don't get on with a normal steel, the lightest of touches is all it needs with a diamond steel if the knives are in good condition. I suspect some of their losing effectiveness / diamonds comes from using them too firmly.

The Nisbets one seems good so far, I wanted one to keep on our boat and with a few strokes it sharpened up my Victorinox knives to the point where there's no hair left on the back of my left hand :D
