Question about curing chamber.

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for the help. I am relatively new to curing. I've helped out with making some stuff in the past, but I am looking to set up a curing chamber of my own.
I have a old wine fridge that I was originally going to use but I'm not happy with the temperature that it runs at (it is too warm even on its coldest setting) and it is on the small side. I am able to get a chest freezer for relatively cheap and was hoping I could use that. It is not "frost free." I already have a temperature and humidity controller, small humidifier, and small computer fan. My question is, does the freezer need to be frost free? Is there something I could do to be able to make it work? I don't have room for a full size fridge.
Thanks!
