NO.. but we did go to different scools together. He is actually a member of another sausage forum, and has spent some time putting this project/product together. Credit where credit's due, I personally liked the rustic, somewhat old-fashioned look of it and thought that it was novel that a BBQ/Smoker didn't have to look like a BBQ/Smoker. Also lots of people actually get some satisfaction out of building something themselves. I did also mention another book on the subject of building your own smokehouse that Amazon.com are currently having a clearance sale on.

kind regards

whilst surfing found this website -

make your own electric smoker from a galvanised dustbin!

I mean an all-in one hotplate - those are replacements parts for cookers.

There is one on amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002YEWYO/

But I think it is a bit expensive for what it is.

Perhaps a trawl of the boot sales might find something.

You can use a calor gas ring. All you will need is either LPG or Propane (propane works at colder UK winter temperatures) gas bottle with the appropriate regulater and hose and a simple camping gas ring. If you want to cold smoke use sawdust as this takes less heat to smolder than wood chips or blocks.

What about using an electric frying pan? they are very cheap, around 30 and should be ok to generate enough heat.
