I'll ask Reber and see if they'll send me a sample with my next order.

Franco any news on the jars yet?
Anyone who has the ready's, you gotta get one of these. It has saved me a fortune in stuff that usally gets chucked away. It's also fantastic for marinadeing stuff, it seems to put the flavour right in the middle of the meat. Trust me it's a cracking bit of kit.

Vacuum Bags

Postby Yorkie_Porkie » Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:48 am

Franco, will this Reber Vacuum ONLY work with the bags you have on the site ?...Am looking at some nice foil pouches for ham and bacon etc on another site and need to find a sealer that will work with these...

Any chance of a unit on loan to try out first ?

The reber will only work with embossed bags. I suspect the foil ones you are talking about will not work.

I use the Reber pouches for storing ham and bacon, as well as prepared meat, and provided you layer them neatly before carefully inserting them in the pouch they look very presentable indeed. Just manipulate the pouch a bit while the air is being extracted, keeping it as flat as possible.
Alternatively, if it is the gold/silver appearance you are after then you can purchase boards to go into vac pouches, that are for use with food.

Hiya Paul,

Have got some samples of Gold / Silver boards and the foil pouches they go into, thats what I was looking at using, so am sure the boards would work well in the embossed pouch. What vac sealer do you have then ?

I have the Reber, it works well. I use it also for vac packing bacon for curing and can just about squeeze a boned leg into the largest size bag. If you get any cure or moisture on the part to be sealed be sure to wipe it dry.

I seem to recall Franco saying that you can get rolls of the bags which can be cut to any size desired - limited by the width of the vacuum packer, but any length. If you need something bigger, this might be what you want.

Hi Yorkie_Porkie, If you are going to use the machine for commercial purposes, I think perhaps you will need something like the following. It is a commercial vac packer on ebay. At the moment it is 250 with 3 days to go.

Hi Aris, it was more to do with what I wanted to package things in rather than the size, I have gone for an Italian sealer made by Orved after looking at all the stats on both machines. Will probably come and get some bags at some point though...

Just checked the guys feedback too and although he has 31 and 100% only 3 people have been buyers, the rest are sellers and most of the bought items low value, so that kinda makes me wary of spending the money too !...Had a close thing on Ebay with a guy in Ireland selling some scales, I didnt buy, and it looks like that everyone that did, was fleeced so am extra careful at the mo !...
