I went and looked at that Torrey M12 wheels, trust me, you wouldn't have wanted to pay more than £150 for it.

The worm was badly damaged as if someone had tried to ram a knife or a steel down the filler, I couldn't find a spare one online, but reckon it'd be close to £100.

In the photo you'll have noticed it had 'fresh' meat poking out of it. Well they hadn't cleaned it afterward and all that meat was now a yellow web of rotten stuff at the 'machine end' of the housing. I'd have had to have soaked the whole thing in bleach for several days and replaced the worm before I'd have felt it was hygienic enough to prepare food for humans!

I walked away and didn't bother bidding. I'm sure someone was sorely disappointed. Good old eBay eh!

:P You certainly did Phil!

To be honest, the guy was a lovely fella, and I felt a bit sorry for him as his business had gone kaput. But seeing the state he kept his machinery/utensils in I thought maybe he should avoid the food trade altogether.

I'm a bit fussy when it comes to nice equipment & insist it's cleaned & stored safely. I suppose some people just don't give a stuff.

So what to buy next??

P.s I like the look of the FAMA machine another poster linked to. Where did you by it?

I am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The machine was bought at Nella Cutlery.
This is a family run company with worldwide locations. I did a search and found this location i http://www.nellacut.com/ Perhaps they stock the grinder

I searched the website & they seems to stock a lot of accessories (knives, plates etc) but I couldn't see the actual mincers.

When I've got a minute I'll call them & see what they can do.

I'd be tempted to buy from somewhere that will still be there if you have problems: The forum shop, Weschenfelders or Northern Tool for example.

A lot of people seem to think this is a good machine, but I'm slightly put off by the term "for occasional use only".

I'd like to be a able to process chicken wings, would this overheat & blow up if I tried it?

It does specify 'not suitable for grinding bones', so perhaps chicken wings might be difficult.

Hi Guys
This is my first post here but I been here reading for a few months..
like the rest of you I've looked for a good grinder for good price, But any thing that would last cost more than I wanted to spend on it ,New and used,
So I decided I would build my own..
I have around $100.00 in this and you could grind tree limbs with it if you wanted too...
Motor is from a industrial sewing machine 1/3 HP (free)
Grinder is a #32 from Northern tool.
Pulley's and bearing blocks from ebay..
Plywood and Formica laminate I had lying around..
I'm going to get a meat pan for the grinder as soon as the sausage maker gets them back in stock..

I still need to make a guard for the pulleys and belts, But I just haven't had time...
I got the idea from another guy on the web that built one like mine..

By saying "for occasional use only", is I imagine, their way of saying "not for commercial use". Obviously, you wouldn't expect a commercial grade mincer at this price. I've used mine for about 18 months on a regular basis, processing batches around the 6 kilos mark, hasn't missed a beat.

That's some machine! I think that I'd want an extension on the feed tube, otherwise knowing me, I'd end up with a hand in the sausage!

Yeah, the glass of wine on the pillar drill, look like a health & safety issue with this machine!!! :shock:

Quite a few people here have one and seem happy.


I've got one of these. It struggles with pork backfat so I would be suprised if it could handle poultry bones. Have you looked at Weschenfelders website, they have a selection of bigger machines.
