Postby ulikabbq » Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:55 pm

I am working on getting the humidity set in my cure chamber, but I am getting completely different readings on my humidity controller and my hygrometer. There is a +20% difference on the hygrometer.

here are the pics of what I am working with. any suggestions help would be appreciated.

Hygrometers are notoriously inaccurate!
Is that hygrometer calibratable?

I use a cigar humidor hygrometer that can be calibrated..

You can calibrate it with some salt saturated water inside a small container.

Well, how much did you pay for them? Accurate hygrometers are not cheap. However, 20% sounds much.

You can check the accuracy like this: Wrap it in a wet cloth and leave for five minutes. It should read 95-100%.

Hi. Your humidifier controller looks a lot like the Hughes 1UHG3 wall-mount room humidifier controller, though it could be a different make and model. The model I linked to, above, doesn't have a remote sensor, and measures the humidity where it is plugged in. You didn't mention how you have it setup. Is your humidifier controller setup inside your cure chamber (plugged into an outlet or extension cord inside the cure chamber - some people use this controller that way)? If not, is it setup outside your cure chamber with a remote sensor inside your cure chamber?

If your hygrometer is measuring the humidity inside your cure chamber and your humidifier controller is measuring the humidity of the room outside your cure chamber, that could easily explain a 20% difference between the two readings. Just a thought.

I test my humidor hygrometer by taking a cap of salt with just a drop or two of water (the salt my still be discernible) and placing it along with the hygometer in an airtight container overnight. It should read 75% when checked the next day.
