Best Humidity Controller?

Where to buy, how to use. Stuffers, casings, spices, grinders, etc.

Best Humidity Controller?

Postby Kizer » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:46 pm

I have the fridge I need for my curing chamber. Now I am trying to decide on what equipment to purchase. I also can't break the bank on my equipment.

I am looking at these two controllers, but it would be nice to find one that could be mounted on the outside of the chamber and run a probe inside. That way I can avoid running outlets into the chamber, which seems problematic and unsafe to me.

I am also contemplating this temp/humid combo controller.

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

I have the top one and it sits collecting dust because it didn't seem to measure humidity correctly. The point at which you could hear the relays clicking on and off never corresponded to what I was measuring with a different device. If i set it at say 75% it would never turn off even with the humidifier cranked up to the point of fogging up the entire fridge for an hour with condensation on everything. Unfortunately I took the thing apart (breaking warranty sticker) just to have a look inside before i used it otherwise it would have gone back to the seller.

I had it kind of working set at like 30-40% without salami but I found that I was lucky and the salami itself kept the fridge at the perfect humidity with no humidification control needed.

I'm still new at this but from what i have read you will most likely not need to dehumidify because fridges act as dehumidifiers so i would start with something that just turns the humidifier on and off.

For temp control go with this guy, you wont regret it:

Hi.

I use a humidity controller Forttex, also use their temperature controller, both on my curing cabinet. Unfortunately, their site is down for "maintenance", but I'm sure it will be back soon. Here is the url http://www.forttex.com

Absolutely spot on kit!! Here is my set-up.

Good to know. Thank you! I will avoid that one, it seems to be the most common used from my research though. Of course, that does not make it the best.

I love the design of your cabinet John. I think that there might be a voltage issue with your controllers for me here in the US. I will have to check when Forttex is back up, hopefully.

thanks!!

I have the Dayton humidity controller. Works great.

For temperature control I use the Johnson Controls A419

None of the issues discussed above I assume? If it is off a little, that is ok, I will calibrate a second monitor to make sure, if I go with the dayton.

The Dayton needs to be in the area it is measuring, but so does the humidifier, so I don't see how you avoid cables in the box.

The temperature controller has a probe, and it can be mounted outside the box.

Ya I coming to terms with that. Seems like the only option.

I like the plug and play option, safer for someone with my electrical skills. Thanks!
