John, I really am sorry to hear that you are finding the CSG frustrating, I would be just the same...
I have just got off the phone to one of our wood suppliers (Ashwood) who now tell me that the German company they source the dust from has changed the grade of the Oak dust (to keep costs down). It would have been nice to have been informed of this change, unfortunately we were not. I am doing some trials with the "new" grade today, initial tests show that if the wood is lightly pressed down, using your thumb, it should stay alight for the full 10 hours or more (this seems to work with the other coarser woods too and may also work with peoples homemade dust).
I would be more than happy to replace the dust we previously supplied to you, with Oak dust from one of our other suppliers.

Thanks for the reply. As I said in one of my posts, I haven't given up on the CSG, there are far too many satisfied customers on here for it to be the device's problem. Please let us know when you have the dust problem resolved, so I can order.

Ironically, I've just thrown about ten sacks full of oak dust and chippings away in France. I'm renovating an old farm house there, making new windows, doors, staircase etc. out of seasoned oak, unfortunately, some chipboard and Conti board got sawn as well, so rather than risk contaminated food, I chucked it. When I go down in the spring, I'll clean out the workshop, and collect any new oak dust/chippings.

I've just filled the CSG with some dust I had with my ABU smoker, lit it about 4 oclock, see how it goes.

I set up the smoke house yesterday, filled with bacon. This is the first chance I've had to try the replacement oak dust that Ian, kindly sent me. The CSG burnt perfectly, burnt for at least 10 hours, and 100% dust turned to ash. I've started a second burn going, and will note how long it goes for.
