Here is a neat bit of kit that someone posted on another forum.

It costs $40 but I bet you could make it for way less. A bit of pipe and some end caps with a small pump. Super easy I think.

From what I know the master piece of pipe is 2" and its 8 inches long.

Right now I'm in the process of getting the pieces to make my own. If I get it done anytime soon I'll post my results.

from the photos it looks as if there nust be a grid in the bottom holding the pellets in, while they light it prior to putting the end cap on. It would be interesting to know what the grid is and how many holes it has in it, or if it is a mesh of some kind. And what stops ash falling into the end cap and melting/blocking the air hose?

I think the hose would be better coming in from the side, the utensil holder in ASDA has about 8 holes in it.

Based on what we have talked about, I'm going to try and set this up tomorow:

Blame Darren and Rich for the idea :)

You remove the soldering iron once it gets going and put a plug in, I hope :)

Nice, does the smoke leave through the top??

That's the plan, the can lid hopefully has enough space to allow the smoke around the edges, if not some perforations may be needed. It may not be necessary at all, but to start with I want to try and exclude oxygen as much as possible except what I pump in from below. I haven't tried it yet as I didn't have any tubing, I'm off to the aquarists this afternoon :)

Dave

Edit: didn't happen, the aquarists has gone bust so no pipe, any thoughts of making do went out the window as my 3 year old went down with a stomach bug caught from nursery. I won't bore you with the details

Well I'm hoping to have all of my parts to make it this weekend but I'll have to see what happens. I am going to have to find someone who can thread SS pipe for me.

8 hrs of solid smoke and we are still smoking like there is no tomorrow :D

Of course in true Dave style I changed the design at the last minute :)

You got any photos. I bought a pump yesterday and was gonna have a go over the weekend. Where are you positioning the bean can, are you ducting the smoke into the smoker, or is it in the smoker. Is it cooler or hotter than the soldering iron on its own, chips or sawdust?

I place my bean can under the brinkmann (stood on a brick to lift it above the bottom of the main chamber) if I brough the air in through the side I guess I could use your method quite easily. The pain in the a**e bit about that way is that to add more wood I have to lift the smoker off the bean can. I was looking to find a way of sealing the bean can and "injecting" the smoke through the shaft of an old golf club I cut up last night. I actually tried drilling down the length of a threaded bar last night so I could use that to put the smoke in, not as easy as it sounds!

The other downside to my brinkmann is that the bottom is of course open, on a windy the smoke just gets whipped out from underneath rather than rising, I have to wrap it with an old duvet cover to keep the wind out.

Sorry for going on!
