Don't smoke in the rain

I used my table top smoker in the rain today but decided I needed a screen to keep the burner going because of the wind and rain

BAD PLAN

The cardboard box I used burnt away, then the heat of the fire burned the gas bottle I used with the smoker. The heat melted the seals out of the gas stove and b**gered the seals

OH well, the trout turned out HOT smoked OK

Your lucky that your whole house didn't burn down! Never,Never use or alter a cooking appliance for a purpose that it wasn't intended. The results could be catastrofic or even fatal.

Don't smoke if there is a temperature inversion. The frost came down last night and trapped all my smoke 8 feet off the ground as it exited the smoker so it spread sideways overnight rather than going up...

I was half expecting a lynch mob from the neighbours at the front door this morning

The bacon and salmon smell good though

Is there a minimum temperature at which you should not smoke, is there a risk of the food not taking the smoke if it is too cold, or is colder better?

Probably wouldn't leave the smoker on overnight anyway, the little air pump I have although small I am sure its noise could travel well at night!
