Thanks everyone it's great fun building ( no name yet ) and fixing the things that need to be changed after the first few cooks. The two bottom grates will have to be turned so it's easier to slice on the spot.

There may also be a shaprening stone mounted within reach to keep everything rolling smooth.

I found stove rope on the internet but have not ordered it as the local mom and pop hardware has a bag of it sitting in a dusty corner. I'll try that out first and if I need more I'll look into it for you.

Porker

Superb job!

Do you have a (cheap) supplier for that expanded metal grid? It seems to cost a fortune around here.

Hi Phil,

I never asked the price, as I had already bogged a few quid in the drum, gauge, heat resistant paint ... but I was shocked at what I was charged and it must have shown as he dropped a few quid off without me even having to ask :)

It works really well, I'm now thinking about some type of spit to cook whole chickens!

Cheers

I need five 500mm x 500mm (approx) pieces - they would cost a fortune - I'm currently eyeing up every bit of scrap I see in the hope of 'adapting' something!
