Continuous CSG using saw dust

I am developing a continuous CSG with a screw-feed, SEE VIDEO LINK AT THE BOTTOM.

Here you see the set-up mounted in a food cannister.



For the guys who have the same blood as me....... the cost will be around $ 15.00 as you all have the aquarium pump already from trials in the past...... AND you probably already have LOTS of saw dust as well.....

It is a good, but not difficult project to do, enjoy, and if you have questions.....just ask !

Hi Dave, yes thank you, picked up from the post office yesterday! Only problem is that it is below freezing here with snow forecast for the weekend!

That's a relief because the tracking site said they'd taken it to Oslo, until it updated with delivered.

That's really quite nice! I'm anxious to see it working in the set-up where the sawdust container and pump is outside of the smoker.

How will you channel the smoke to the smoker?

The camera was aimed away from my balcony, in the direction of the wind, and the wind blew in the microphone, bringing along the noise of the highway 40. The only noise the unit is making, is the noise of the small aquarium pump, that is not much.

How will you channel the smoke to the smoker?

I am chewing on that a little bit, but for now my thoughts are in the picture below. Taking the smoke away straight from the source. I have already a 3/4" connection hole on that level in my smoker.
Of course I will put a cover on the enclosure....



I stopped the trial after 5 hours, there was almost no ash residu in the small fire box.
For my feeling, I will lower the air supply a bit for the next test.

Here you see the last and final version of my CSG for sawdust.

Changes:

* Much smaller, but still holds 50 hours smoking.
* Sawdust can be re-filled from the outside now.
* Everything is placed in an airtight canister, the overpressure and supplied air from the aquarium pump will transport the smoke through a hose to my smoker, which will be next to the CSG.
* A new auger, very easy to make yourself, this auger feeds 12 gram/hour.





Tomorrow will be testing day !

Lol no.....we have snow here until at least end of March, we are used to it, but it is cold, much colder than other years, on average -10 -12C in the day, and with a lot of wind, that makes it worse. ( happy I work from home.....I can smoke in the day and no traffic jams )

I have used my EXTREME cold smoker all winter, and this little gadget will be useful for the long runs, I can also put the hose of the CSG at the bottom of my BBQ and hot smoke. I have a BBQ on natural gaz ( wall connection - no bottle ) and in winter, we use it at least 3 times a week.

Judgement day is over, and except some minor things, it went very well.

The minor things:

I have made a new auger, see below. This auger feeds with 20 RPM around 12 gram/hour. The previous auger ( 1/4" bolt ) gave with the same speed 23 gram/hour, which was too much for my feeling.



I will change the auger to around 16-17 gram/hour. This is very easy to do, the auger is a thin wire, turned around a BBQ pin with a certain pitch, at both ends I have hot-glued the wire on the BBQ pin. The only thing I need to do, is to shorten the wire in length, and turn it back on the BBQ pin again, but now with a bigger pitch, by doing this, the auger will give more sawdust with the same speed.

The second thing is the transfer of smoke from the CSG to the smoker. I have the feeling that there is a lot of resistance in the hose, I might opt for putting a small blower in-between, as mentioned earlier, or one where the hose comes into the smoker, this last one might distribute the smoke in the smoker better.

Anyone any thoughts on this ?
