Brinkmann smoke'n grill

Hi all,
I own the el cheapo Brinkmann smok'n grill. They sell an electric smoker converter to convert the charcoal smoker to an electric smoker (Model 450-0224-C). Has anybody used one? I can't seem to find any reviews.
My question is will the converter & wood chips create enough heat, or will I also have to use charcoal? I want to use it to hot smoke sausages using hog casings.
Thanks, bernalwats
